Mass Effect 3 Resurgence Pack DLC Review

Mass Effect 3's first multiplayer DLC has just dropped, and at the enticing price of free, it seems like it offers a satisfying extension to what people are loving about the multiplayer so far. So how does it stack up, and how is the content itself?

There's a pretty good selection of new content in the Resurgence Pack, this isn't just one new character and one new gun. There's 6 classes in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, and we get a new character for all of them. Even better, these are mostly previously unplayable races, such as the Batarians and the Geth, making it more appealing. They each come with their own unique set of abilities, and everything is customizable, from the armor color to the powers, just like every other character.

Those looking for more reason to just keep playing the multiplayer and unlock stuff should be satisfied with that alone.

For those who need a little bit more convincing to jump back into the multiplayer, there's 3 new weapons to unlock and test out across 2 new maps. Firebase Hydra is a (very wet) map with a fair amount of open areas on a facility next to a dam. There's glaciers melting around you, and the scenery is a nice change. Firebase Condor is set on Palaven's Moon (from the single player) and features large open spaces littered with cover positions, both high and low. The large map is great for sniping spots, but makeshift command centers set up also provide good cover for those close encounters.

Both of the new maps are pretty fun to play through. Condor is probably my new favorite map, beating out Firebase White. The new characters give incentive to keep playing, and the new weapons are a nice touch to keep things fresh.

Overall, this is a great DLC, I'm sure EA thought about slapping a $5 price tag on this stuff ($10, possibly) but the fact that it's free certainly makes it more appealing. I easily give this pack a 9/10, the only negative is that if you're tired of the repetitive nature of the multiplayer and the wave-based gameplay, this might hold your interest for 5 minutes, but it's still the same multiplayer, just with new maps and characters.

If you were hoping for new modes and are otherwise sick of the multiplayer, this won't change your mind. Otherwise, there's no reason not to download it, this pack is great!

9/10
