iPhone Already Gathering Gaming Interest
When Apple head Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone yesterday (talk about a PlayStation 3-level price shocker), heads turned. It's of little surprise, then, that MCV talked to a few mobile game developers who have already started looking at Apple's new gizmo. The kinds of games we're talking about are licensed mobile products like 24: The Game, though, not a new Metal Gear Solid.
Still, the company's products are hip and it wouldn't be a surprise to see companies like Capcom, who have started moving more heavily into the mobile space, leveraging their franchises.
"The iPhone announcement continues to build on the great focus that the mobile industry is enjoying at present. The awareness it generates that the mobile phone is as much an entertainment device as a communications tool opens up considerable opportunities for those of us involved in this dynamic business," I-Play CEO David Gosen said to MCV.
The touch screen opens opportunities similar to Nintendo DS, but actually improves on Nintendo's own design by allowing for multiple touch inputs simultaneously. DS can't pull that off, which is why games like Dance Dance Revolution (which is a stupid idea to begin with, but stick with me here) can't work; DS can only recognize one press at a time.
