God of War Site Reveals Commentary HD Mode
The Island of Rhodes site, originally believed just be offering up lackluster director's commentary videos on two stages in God of War 2, actually has more layers to it than a vidalia onion. Most notably, another countdown timer and a code to unlock a hi-res (640x448 aka 480P -- it looks nicer on an HDTV) mode on GoW 2.
To access the hi-res mode punch in L1 L2 L3 Square Circle. Even more interesting, however, is a new countdown asking gamers to wait another 11 days to learn about God of War: Ch. What are they getting at? God of War: Chains of Fate, God of War: Champion of the Titans, God of War: Chariots of Fire, God of War: Challenger of Time?
We'll have to wait and see.
ORIGINAL STORY: The wait is over. After gamers discovered the Island of Rhodes site just over two weeks ago, speculation began as to what the end of the countdown would signify.
A: The announcement of God of War 3?
B: The return of David Jaffe to the series?
C: A trailer for the PSP version of the game?
Too bad they're all wrong. The answer turned out to be D: None of the Above. Instead of a major announcement regarding the future of the series, eager fans were treated to developer commentary on two of the levels in God of War 2.
There are two separate levels examined, with multiple commentary tracks for each. Cory Barlog, the game's director, offers up track for both videos, while other team members from combat designer to level designer and game animator offer up their thoughts on the levels.
The commentary is interesting, but, at the same time, you have to wonder why Sony chose to promote these videos with a countdown timer. Countdown timers scream grand reveals, not nice additions. Now all you've got is a bunch of PO'd gamers who got all worked up for nothing -- and that's nothing anyone wants to see.
