Crackdown Cleans up February

Microsoft's new IP tops NPD sales chart.

It came as no surprise that Microsoft's Crackdown topped February's NPD sales charts. In just eight days, Crackdown sold more than 400,000 copies according to NPD data. Fueled by a popular downloadable demo and a guaranteed invitation into this spring's Halo 3 beta, Crackdown performed admirably.

With the announcement of the Halo 3 beta, many speculated a massive success for Crackdown. No one was certain just how well Microsoft's first-party title would sell out of the gate. Industry experts varied in their expectations, ranging from 100,000 to 1 million copies in its first week.

Thanks to respectable review scores and the 80-ton gorilla that is Halo 3, Crackdown could build considerably on its 400k opening week. Microsoft also has downloadable content in the pipeline to help fuel any waning interest in Crackdown.

Crackdown faces considerable competition for the top sales slot in March. Three proven franchises saw sequels released recently. Def Jam: Icon (PS3, Xbox 360), God of War II (PS2) and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (Xbox 360) have proven track-records as high-selling titles.

Check back in mid-April to see if Crackdown and the Halo 3 beta can hold on to the top spot.

For me I have the game and been playing the heck out of it. Which also I have been having some great moments as well in God of War 2. But hey for everyone that said Crackdown was going to do well in sales because Microsoft put in the Halo 3 beta. Also saying Crackdown could be a rip off the Gran Theft Auto. The answer to both questions is heck no!

It just shows that Microsoft has been really getting ready for this next-generation console war with Sony and Nintendo. They have market there console very well and have been bringing great games. So be on the look out Sony and Nintendo because Microsoft is on a roll right now. If you have not played Crackdown or interested in buying it and not sure, IGN has a Video Review of the game. Check it out!

I dunno, Crackdown has been receiving average reviews (both critical and user based) so I think you're just taking to it slightly more than most others.

The Halo 3 beta definitely played as a 70% reason for selling those games...

well you going to tell me that the game is not good though. Without that Halo Beta people wont be playing it? Because for one I have been enjoying the game.

I'm not saying it's good or not, just saying that the halo beta is partly responsible for the sales...
